The Tower Wind Quintet, comprised of Friends University faculty, was formed in 2001. Since that time, they have given annual recitals, performed frequently at KMEA conventions, commissioned several new works, given masterclasses and recitals in schools across the state, and performed at many community events.

The quintet enjoys collaborating with a variety of other art disciplines. They have worked with the Friends Ballet Department and Visual Arts Department, Charles Parker (drama), Dr. James Knight (professor of piano), Rolaine Hetherington (soprano), Dan Racer and Randy Zellers (composers), the Friends University Concert Band as featured soloists, the faculty brass quintet, string quartet, percussion, and have produced multimedia presentations including lights and photography. Most recently, Shawn Knopp (director of bands and assistant professor of music education) has collaborated with the group as narrator.
